I never do more than a few days to a week seems to be sufficient to absorb the rum.
I am also a cake, let simmer in the butter, fruit, sugar and liquid / soft alcohol for fifteen minutes and before you nuts, eggs and flour - delicious, rich and moist cool.

I think in a glass bowl covered with plastic in a cool place.
